Masataka Nakano spent 11 years taking photographs of locations around Tokyo that usually would have a high traffic density, waiting until they reached quieter moments. The result is a collection called Tokyo Nobody, which can be viewed in more depth here.

I thought, what better way to introduce myself to the lovely BDJJ readers than by posting a video that I neither created, nor starred in!

The reason why I posted this video is three-fold:
1. Blogothèque is a wicked, wicked website that you should all frequent.
2. It takes place in Paris, the sweet homeland of my ancestors.
3. I love Phoenix, this song is gorgeous, and if I'm ever in a foul mood, watching this makes me a happy clam.

(also, the unimpressed guy at 2:57 makes me giggle uncontrollably)

Pretty dresses and plenty of tea

I had an amazing time a couple of Sundays ago doing something I've always wanted to try: dress making. We arrived at the Papered Parlour in Clapham and boy was I jealous. A lovely little studio decked out in all things vintage, they were living my dream! It was a long day but with lots of help and even more tea, this is what I made. Thanks to the girls at Papered Parlour, I now have the sewing bug!

What do these squares mean to you?

b) a frightening math program developed for Nintendo DS
c) hundreds of love letters categorized by colour

Our creative protagonist here is Asia Wong, brilliant visionary force extraordinaire who does random projects such as these. One day she decided to write 300 love letters to people she knew and then send them to strangers. Why?

"At the start I had one very simple goal: by the end of this project I wanted to be able to write a love letter to anyone, a stranger on the street, or someone that I have nothing but scorn for. I wanted to be able to pull out and vocalize the small thread connecting me to them, them to me, the something in them that I found beautiful or real and the something between us that existed beneath everything, acknowledged or unacknowledged, forgotten gestures and moments, strange and rare affinities. In the same way that part of art school training is training your eye to take in and process the world around you, to stop and notice things, to learn how to really see, I wanted to train my heart to really feel. Some romantics are wincing now: how can you train your heart? It's a lot like training your eye: there was always that crack in the sidewalk, you just never noticed before the way that the lines trace like lightning bolts, the starkness of the light grey concrete, and the blackness of the crevices, the perfect intricacies of it all. There are always connections between people, things to admire in people, trust that goes unnoticed, small kindnesses, shared silences. There is always so much to see, and there is always so much to feel.

There is so much we don't talk about, so much we have trouble believing in."


The letters are posted on this site with a colour guide so that you can follow for whom and what type of relationship they were written for.

I, Secretary

Sometimes "misery loves company" is the best attitude a job searching twenty something can have. I've often felt that the process of leaving university and entering the workforce parallels the 5 Stages of Grief. The unfortunate thing however is that unlike death, this cycle usually repeats itself.

1. Denial: "I'll just be the front desk for a couple of months before I start directing."
2. Anger: "Getchor own coffee! I went to filmschool, beyaatch."
3. Bargaining: "What if.. you know, I like, filmed your dog while I was walking it and then could use that for my reel???"
4. Depression: "My breath smells like toner."
5. Acceptance: "Goodmorning, Company X?"
1. Denial: "It'll just be a couple more months until I finish my 'Dog Jogs' documentary."
